How do I change the priority of my MX records? Print

  • 0

MX priority decides which mail server is tried first; the lowest number wins. Edit it in cPanel:

  1. Log in to cPanel and open Zone Editor (or Email Routing / MX Entry).
  2. Find the MX record for yourdomain.com and click Edit.
  3. Change the Priority value, for example set your main mail server to 0 and a backup to 10.
  4. Save the change.

If you host mail with us, leave the MX pointing to mail.yourdomain.com with priority 0. After saving, also check Email Routing is set to Local Mail Exchanger if mail is delivered here. Changes can take up to 24 hours to propagate. If a third party (like Google Workspace) provides your email, use the exact records they give you, or open a ticket for help.
