Which PHP version should I use for WordPress? Print

  • 0

Use the latest stable PHP version that WordPress officially supports, which is generally PHP 8.1, 8.2, or 8.3. Newer PHP is faster and more secure than older releases.

  1. In cPanel, open Select PHP Version (or MultiPHP Manager).
  2. Pick a current 8.x version for your domain and save.

Before switching a live site, back up and test in a staging copy, since some older themes or plugins may not yet support the newest PHP. If you hit errors, drop back one minor version (for example from 8.3 to 8.2) and update your plugins. Keeping PHP current pairs well with LiteSpeed Cache for top performance. Unsure which version your plugins support? Open a ticket and we will advise.
