What is overselling and should I enable it? Print

Overselling means assigning client packages whose combined disk and bandwidth limits add up to more than your actual reseller quota, betting that most clients will never use their full allocation. WHM resellers can sometimes enable this in package settings using overselling options.

It can let you sell more accounts from the same plan, but it carries real risk: if usage spikes, you can run out of real disk or bandwidth and accounts may hit errors or stop working.

Our recommendation:

  • Only oversell modestly and monitor real usage in WHM under Account Information > List Accounts.
  • Keep headroom so active sites stay healthy.
  • Upgrade your reseller plan before you are consistently near your true limit.

If you are unsure how much room your plan has, check your welcome email or open a ticket.
