Why can't I connect to FTP? Print

FTP failures are usually wrong credentials, the wrong port/mode, or a firewall block after failed logins. Verify your settings first.

  1. Use the host, username, and password from your welcome email or from cPanel FTP Accounts. The host is normally ftp.yourdomain.com or your server hostname.
  2. For plain FTP use port 21; for secure FTPS also port 21 with explicit TLS. SFTP uses port 22 (SSH).
  3. Switch your client (FileZilla) to Passive mode.
  4. Too many wrong passwords can trigger a temporary firewall block on your IP — wait and retry from the correct details.

If connections still fail or time out, note your public IP and open a ticket so we can check for a block.
